What to expect during your first visit
A new patient appointment consists of a consultation and dental evaluation, including a dental diagnosis, and an overview of treatment options. Because each patient’s medical history and treatment plan varies, treatment usually begins on the second appointment, which can be scheduled in advance for the same day if availability allows.
Request an appointment online or contact our Gainesville office through this website or by calling 352-384-0050.
During your first visit, we perform a comprehensive oral exam on new patients that includes taking measurements and x-rays to help determine the type of cleaning appointment to schedule. We also assess whether there are any imminent health concerns to address.
If we discover tooth decay (caries aka cavities), bite issues (malocclusion), or gum tissue problems or bone loss (periodontal disease), you and the doctor will collaboratively create a treatment plan based on recommendations reflecting your individual needs and wishes.
After you make your appointment, we will E-mail you a link that you will use to sign into your patient portal and fill out your paperwork digitally. This process provides an efficient, accurate, and environmentally-friendly registration experience that can be completed from anywhere with an Internet connection.
Your first time logging in, the system will ask you to verify your date of birth and zip code. Then you will choose a password to use with your Email to log in to the patient portal.
Please contact our office if you have questions regarding new client registration.
During a baby’s first visit, our dentist meets with the child and builds rapport through relaxed yet professional interactions. When there is no medical issue to address, this new patient appointment is primarily to acclimate the young patient to the dental office, dental equipment, dental chair, dental staff, and general dental environment. We want to make sure that this appointment is a fun, low-anxiety visit.
Dr. Cruz-Davis will attempt to examine the child’s mouth and document the findings, e.g. which teeth have come in (erupted), and anything else noteworthy. The doctor will (attempt to) brush the child’s teeth and administer a fluoride application to help fight cavities in between professional dental visits.
Our dentist will also provide dental care tips and nutritional counseling to the child and parent or caregiver to encourage good home oral hygiene habits.
A child's first dental appointment will consist of a comprehensive oral evaluation and four to six x-rays of the molars and front teeth (anterior teeth). The doctor will review the diagnosis and treatment plan with the patient and parent or caretaker.
If time permits, the doctor or a dental hygienist will perform a dental cleaning (prophylaxis) on the patient, followed by a fluoride application to help fight cavities between professional dental treatments. If there is not enough time during the first appointment to also complete a dental cleaning and fluoride application, we will schedule these important preventative services for a date in the near future.
An adolescent's first dental appointment will consist of a comprehensive oral evaluation and four to six x-rays of the molars and front teeth (anterior teeth). The doctor will review the diagnosis and treatment plan with the patient and parent or caretaker.

By age 14, young adults typically have all of their adult teeth, except for wisdom teeth. An adult new patient appointment includes a comprehensive oral evaluation consisting of a Full Mouth X-ray series (FMX) and gum measurements on every tooth. The doctor will review the diagnosis and treatment plan with the patient as well as the parent or caretaker if the patient is a minor. Treatment typically begins on the next visit to our office.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act or HIPAA - Your privacy is our priority!
Cruz Davis Dental complies with all HIPAA regulations and employs the most current Internet security measures to keep patient information safe. You and our dental professionals will map out a sequential guide for your dental care, with the goal of optimizing your oral health and appearance. Diagnosis, budget, and patient preference influence the scope and progression of the treatment plan, which can be updated at any time depending on those factors.
Dental fees vary depending on the details of a procedure. Before performing dental work, our doctor creates a treatment plan and reviews it with you. Procedures are carefully charted and coded accordingly, using current information standardized by the ADA.
Payment Policy
We require a $100 per hour deposit to reserve an appointment. The fee is then applied to your bill but will be forfeited if you break the appointment, according to our Broken Appointments policy. For Cruz Club members, we will charge your stored payment method and keep the deposit on your account. Any balance is due when services are rendered, before exiting the office. Pre-payment is required for some appointments, as well as for lab fees before the case is submitted to the lab. All returned payments (checks, electronic payments, etc.) will incur a $35 fee.
Broken Appointments
Sometimes plans change, and we understand that. Please contact our office as soon as you know that you cannot keep an appointment, and we will be happy to reschedule you for another date and time that works for you.
Before you arrive, our team of professionals has already reviewed the clinical and financial details of your visit, including medical history and Cruz Club membership status or insurance benefits. Broken appointments, cancellations, and changes made within less than 24 Cruz Davis Dental business hours’ notice will incur a fee of $100 per scheduled hour of the appointment. Note that our business hours are Monday - Thursday, 8am - 5pm.

Medicaid provides health coverage to low-income U.S. Americans. Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that helps with medical costs for some people with limited income. The Medicaid program is one of the largest payers for health care in the United States.
Although our Gainesville dental office does not participate in the Medicaid program, we would be happy to help suggest a provider or clinic that does. Here is a list of Medicaid and Low Income Providers for Alachua County. Keep in mind that not all providers have current availability to treat new patients.
Medicaid provides health care coverage to millions of Americans, including eligible low-income adults, children, pregnant women, elderly individuals, and people with disabilities. Medicaid is administered by states, according to federal requirements.
The University of Florida College of Dentistry offers several dental clinics for children and adults. In addition to self-pay patients, the clinics accept people who are on Medicaid or who are otherwise considered low-income individuals or families.
Some UF dental clinics are run by the more senior dental students who are overseen by their dentist-professors, while other UF dental clinics are fully run by dentists who are the full dental care providers.
